WHAT WE’VE BUILT
College and university projects
Historic Renovations | Research Facilities | Classroom Updates | Infrastructure Improvements
Betty’s Apple House will open in 2027 as a vibrant, welcoming destination that remains free to the public. The new facility will expand offerings with University-made ice cream, local CFANS products, and engaging exhibits that share the science and history of fruit breeding, including the beloved Honeycrisp.
Loeffler served as General Contractor for the reroofing of Hasselmo Hall and McNeal Hall, two active academic facilities in the heart of busy campus districts. With pedestrian access and critical infrastructure on all sides, our team carefully planned and executed logistics to keep the buildings safe, accessible, and fully operational throughout construction.
This transformative project enhances the visitor experience at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum by relocating the main entrance to the intersection of Highway 5 and Minnewashta Parkway, creating a safer, faster, and more intuitive arrival for guests.
The Red Lake Nation College-Minneapolis site is a cutting-edge higher educational institution, featuring training spaces, classrooms, student services, office space, and a rooftop student area. Standing as the first Tribal College within an urban center, the facility repurposes three 120-year-old buildings.
Loeffler served as Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) for the University of Minnesota’s residence hall security improvement program, a multi-site project spanning seven halls across the Minneapolis campus. Scheduled during the summer of 2025, the upgrades were carefully planned to strengthen student safety while maintaining accessibility and welcoming campus environments.
This project consisted of four roof replacements across the University of Minnesota campus, including Ted Mann Concert Hall, the Children’s Rehabilitation Center, the Variety Club Research Center, and Ferguson Hall.
The Hubbard School of Journalism and Mass Communication (HSJMC) office and lab remodel involved the renovation of nearly 9,000 square feet of existing media labs, library, and small group spaces in the lower level of the University of Minnesota’s Murphy Hall.
Loeffler provided Construction Manager at Risk services for the Expansion and Renovation of the University of Minnesota’s Transportation and Public Safety Facility located on Washington Avenue. The project consolidated under one roof all public safety divisions on the Minneapolis campus, including the Police Department, University Security, and the Public Safety Emergency Communications Center (PSECC).
This project upgraded the exterior of the West Bank Skyway with demolition, framing, and installation of new Centria metal panels over Metro Transit’s right-of-way. The replacement of the exterior envelope addressed ongoing water infiltration issues and extended the life of this heavily used campus connection.
At the heart of the University’s campus, three academic buildings, Aldermann Hall, Haecker Hall, and the Biosystems Building, received much-needed roof replacements. Each building carried its own history, stakeholder needs, and logistical challenges, requiring a thoughtful approach to planning and delivery.
This project addressed the replacement of the failing sanitary and sewer system at Territorial Hall by removing the existing system and rerouting it into an adjacent city right-of-way.
Pleasant Street is more than just a roadway; it is the signature gateway to the University of Minnesota’s East Bank campus. Framed by historic architecture and serving thousands of pedestrians, bicyclists, transit riders, and vehicles each day, the corridor demanded thoughtful improvements to balance safety, access, and campus character.
This project involved utility upgrades and the full reconstruction of Church Street SE between Washington Avenue SE and Delaware Street SE. The corridor, though only one block long, serves as a critical transportation route for pedestrians and bicycles in the heart of the University of Minnesota campus.
This project required innovative solutions to maintain safety and minimize disruption while working over an active highway. Loeffler and its dedicated trade partners designed and installed a complex scaffolding system that spanned Trunk Highway 5, supported by carefully coordinated night lane shifts to protect both crews and the traveling public.
The North Church Street project rebuilt nearly two city blocks of shared-use plaza between Washington Avenue and the Church Street Parking Garage. Serving as a central pedestrian and bicycle thoroughfare, the corridor also accommodates daily delivery vehicles to surrounding campus buildings, making careful planning essential.
Located on the eastern campus of the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, this 6,700 SF facility highlights the ecological and agricultural importance of bees while serving as both a public education center and a research hub for the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences at the University of Minnesota.
This 12,000 SF addition to the Plant Growth Facilities West Greenhouse District created a first-of-its-kind space for the College of Biological Sciences, combining advanced research facilities with a public conservatory under one roof.
Recognized as the oldest part of the University of Minnesota’s Minneapolis campus, the Knoll Area presented a unique set of logistical challenges. With an aggressive two-season schedule and a complex scope of both exterior and interior work, the project required a steady, experienced hand.
The City of Minneapolis began a large-scale, multi-phased maintenance project on the historic Northern Pacific Railroad Bridge No. 9 several years ago, with completion anticipated in 2028. As part of this effort, Loeffler was entrusted in 2020 to manage a two-phase relocation and replacement of the University’s steam and condensate lines that run beneath the bridge, supplying critical utilities to the West Bank campus.
