Revitalizing a Historic Campus Corridor

Recognized as the oldest part of the University of Minnesota’s Minneapolis campus, the Knoll Area presented a unique set of logistical challenges. With an aggressive two-season schedule and a complex scope of both exterior and interior work, the project required a steady, experienced hand.

As Construction Manager, Loeffler Construction played a vital role from pre-design through completion, providing proactive logistics planning and adaptive coordination with both the University and the City of Minneapolis. The work included underground utility upgrades, tunnel repairs, and roadway improvements, along with deep excavation and boring strategies to extend chilled water networks. Additional scope included creative shoring designs to support tunnel reconstruction, replacement of duct bank and site lighting, upgraded water and sewer systems, and the full reconstruction of deteriorated sidewalks, roadways, and parking corridors, all within a historic setting of buildings and trees.
