Building a Better Arboretum

For years, the AppleHouse has been a fall tradition for families across the Twin Cities, as a place to pick up apples, pumpkins, and seasonal goods. As the Arboretum welcomed additional visitors each year, it became clear that a new home was needed to carry this tradition forward and create even more opportunities to connect with the community.

Loeffler joined the project team in 2024 as Construction Manager at Risk to help shape that vision. Betty’s Apple House will open in 2027 as a vibrant, welcoming destination that remains free to the public. The new facility will expand offerings with University-made ice cream, local CFANS products, and engaging exhibits that share the science and history of fruit breeding, including the beloved Honeycrisp.

Visitors will approach along a newly landscaped corridor off Highway 41, with future links to regional trails and the Arboretum’s Oswald Visitor Center. While the new facility takes shape, the existing AppleHouse will continue to welcome guests each fall, keeping the tradition alive until its new chapter begins.
