Building a Better Arboretum
This transformative project enhances the visitor experience at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum by relocating the main entrance to the intersection of Highway 5 and Minnewashta Parkway, creating a safer, faster, and more intuitive arrival for guests. The improved alignment significantly reduces congestion along the highway and provides a clearer, more welcoming gateway to one of the region’s most beloved destinations.
In addition to the new vehicular entry, the existing gatehouse will be repurposed into a dedicated pedestrian and bike entrance connected directly to the Highway 5 regional trail. This conversion supports the Arboretum’s long-term commitment to accessibility and ensures that visitors arriving on foot or by bike can enjoy a seamless, inclusive approach to the grounds. The current entrance will be reconfigured as a streamlined exit point, improving traffic flow for departing vehicles.
Serving as the CMAR partner, Loeffler Construction has worked closely with the University, Arboretum leadership, and the design team from the earliest stages of planning. Our collaborative involvement during design has helped guide constructability, phasing, and budget alignment to support a smooth transition into construction and deliver a gateway experience that reflects the Arboretum’s mission and future growth.
