Curating Safe Spaces for Student Life

Loeffler served as Construction Manager at Risk (CMaR) for the University of Minnesota’s residence hall security improvement program, a multi-site project spanning seven halls across the Minneapolis campus. Scheduled during the summer of 2025, the upgrades were carefully planned to enhance student safety while maintaining accessibility and welcoming campus environments.

The scope of work varied by building, but generally included renovations to main entries, reception desks, and staff offices, along with the installation of electronic security turnstiles, video intercom systems, and accessibility improvements. These enhancements create secure, single-person entry points monitored by adjacent staffed desks, improving both safety and the student experience.

Coordinating construction across multiple sites, including Pioneer, Territorial, Frontier, and Centennial Halls in the Superblock as well as Sanford, Wilkins, and Keeler Halls in Dinkytown, required strategic scheduling and sequencing. Loeffler grouped activities to maximize efficiency, allowing trade partners to move seamlessly from one site to the next. This proactive planning minimized disruption and ensured that the University’s long-term security goals were met with precision and reliability.
