Strengthening Safety for Students and Staff
Loeffler provided Construction Manager at Risk services for the Expansion and Renovation of the University of Minnesota’s Transportation and Public Safety Facility located on Washington Avenue.
The project consolidated under one roof all public safety divisions on the Minneapolis campus, including the Police Department, University Security, and the Public Safety Emergency Communications Center (PSECC). Centralizing these operations will help make public safety services more accessible and encourage interaction between students, staff, and the visiting public.
Since the existing building was fully occupied, the project required a phased approach to displacement and construction, which included relocating occupants of the Center for Transportation Studies (CTS) and PSECC to make room for the expanded police facility. Critical to the University, the UMPD and PSECC were fully operational and continued to operate with no “down” times through design, construction, and relocation.
