Building Spaces for Communities to Thrive
The Anishinabe Wakiagun Building, originally built in 1995, has long served as an affordable housing facility for Native American residents in Minneapolis. To expand housing opportunities and strengthen supportive services, the American Indian Community Development Corporation (AICDC) and Project for Pride in Living, Inc. (PPL) partnered with Loeffler Construction to deliver the Bii Gii Wiin expansion.
Completed in May 2016, the three-story, 32-unit multifamily affordable housing addition introduced new living spaces along with shared amenities such as common areas, reception, and offices. Designed to provide both stability and community, Bii Gii Wiin marked a significant investment in meeting the housing needs of Native residents.
As part of the overall project, Loeffler also renovated the existing Wakiagun building with upgraded finishes, refreshed common areas, and improved resident spaces. Because residents remained in the building during construction, Loeffler developed a careful work plan to minimize disruptions and ensure a safe, supportive environment.
