Preserving History for Future Learning
As part of the 2021 Lakeville Park Bond Referendum, funding was approved to restore and expand the historic cabin at Ritter Farm Park. Built during World War II, the cabin was originally located at Camp Savage along Highway 13 before being acquired by the City of Lakeville and relocated to Ritter Farm Park in 2008. Refurbishment funding followed in 2021, and renovations were completed in 2023, positioning the cabin for its next chapter as an outdoor educational resource.
Over the course of a year, Loeffler collaborated with consultants to design building schematics and thoughtfully select interior and exterior features that honor the site’s history while preparing it for future use. The project also included demolition of a deteriorating historic house, site restoration, and trail improvements within the surrounding park system. The renewed cabin now serves as the Ed Mako Environmental Learning Center, providing a dedicated space for educational programs and expanded nature-based learning opportunities.
